Two Cameroonians arrested in the Philippines over alleged cryptocurrency fraud

Two Cameroonian nationals have been arrested in the Philippines following an undercover police operation targeting a suspected cryptocurrency fraud scheme. The arrests, carried out on 20 November 2025 in the Clark Freeport Zone, have sparked widespread attention in Cameroon as authorities abroad intensify crackdowns on international cyber-enabled crime.

According to Philippine law-enforcement officials, the suspects were apprehended during a sting operation after investigators posed as interested clients in an online crypto investment deal. The operation uncovered what authorities describe as a sophisticated scheme built around fake digital-asset trading opportunities designed to lure victims with promises of high returns.

Both suspects were taken into custody on charges linked to online fraud and the unlawful solicitation of funds through cryptocurrency platforms. Philippine officials say the investigation is ongoing, with potential links to a wider network still being explored.

The case has reignited public debate in Cameroon around the rising involvement of some nationals in overseas financial crimes, especially in regions with fast-expanding digital-finance ecosystems.
