Nigeria to publish names of terrorism financiers ‘in coming days’ — Presidency

Nigeria will soon disclose the identities of individuals and networks financing terrorism in the country, a senior aide to President Bola Tinubu said, as the government steps up efforts to counter insurgent groups.

Daniel Bwala, the president’s special adviser on policy communication, told local television station, Television Continental that the administration was taking “far-reaching decisions” on national security that would soon become public.

“In the coming days, Nigerians will know who the terrorists are and those funding them,” he said, adding that authorities were intensifying measures to disrupt financing channels that enable militant activity.

Bwala said terrorism had become a global threat requiring international cooperation, noting that major powers increasingly recognise the need to support countries like Nigeria where extremist groups remain active.

“Any nation where terrorists operate becomes a concern to the rest of the world,” he said. “International partners must continue to cooperate with Nigeria in our efforts to dismantle terrorist networks.”

He added that while extremism was previously concentrated in parts of the Middle East, instability has shifted toward the Sahel, underscoring the need for stronger regional coordination.

The comments came as President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the African Union–European Union Summit in Angola, reiterated Nigeria’s opposition to the use of private military contractors in African conflict zones. Tinubu said such forces undermine sovereignty and complicate counter-terrorism operations.

Africa’s security challenges, he argued, require coordinated, state-led responses aligned with long-standing ECOWAS and AU frameworks, and not parallel security structures with unclear mandates.

Tinubu also warned that declining global commitment to multilateralism was contributing to a more fragile security environment, saying the EU remained one of the few partners maintaining continent-wide engagement with Africa.
