One million households without power in Ukraine after Russia attacks energy grid

Ukraine faces widespread power outages affecting roughly one million households after a series of Russian strikes on the country’s energy infrastructure. The attacks, which targeted key electricity transmission and distribution networks, have left major urban and rural areas without electricity, disrupting daily life and essential services.

President Volodymyr Zelensky met with European leaders in Berlin amid the crisis, discussing emergency support, grid repairs, and long-term energy resilience measures. The meeting coincides with US envoy Steve Witkoff preparing for further talks with Zelensky to coordinate international assistance and reinforce Ukraine’s energy security.

The strikes are part of ongoing hostilities in the region, heightening concerns over civilian hardship as winter conditions intensify. Authorities are prioritising restoration efforts, with engineers deployed across affected regions to repair damaged power lines and restore electricity as quickly as possible.
