Kenya wildlife service offers free park entry in festive “Boxing Day in the Wild” promotion

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has launched a limited-time festive initiative, “Boxing Day in the Wild,” offering Kenyan citizens free entry to national parks and sanctuaries until 31 December 2025.

The five-day promotion aims to encourage families and groups to make the most of the holiday period by reconnecting with nature and exploring Kenya’s rich wildlife. The scheme provides free entry incentives based on group size and vehicle type, extending benefits to families, small cars, buses, vans, and 4×4 vehicles.

Under the offer, families of five visiting any sanctuary or marine park will receive free entry for one child aged 6–17. Similarly, passengers in a standard 5-seater car will also benefit from one free child entry. Larger groups travelling in a 25-seater bus are eligible for free entry for two adults, while groups in 7-seater vans or 8-seater Land Cruisers receive free admission for one adult.

“Make memories, reconnect with nature, and close the year surrounded by Kenya’s wildlife,” KWS said in a social media announcement promoting the initiative.

The promotion is part of KWS’s broader effort to enhance public engagement with Kenya’s protected areas, which include both terrestrial and marine ecosystems. By offering targeted free-entry incentives, the agency hopes to boost visitation during the holiday season while fostering awareness of conservation efforts across the country.

Kenya is known for its diverse wildlife, including the Big Five lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros attracting both domestic and international tourists. The festive free-entry offer allows Kenyan citizens to experience these attractions at no cost, encouraging families and groups to explore the country’s national parks before the year ends.

The initiative comes amid growing efforts by KWS to balance tourism promotion with conservation priorities. By incentivizing local visits, the service hopes to cultivate a culture of appreciation for wildlife while providing economic benefits to park management and surrounding communities.

The “Boxing Day in the Wild” promotion will run only until the end of December, offering a unique opportunity for families and groups to enjoy Kenya’s natural heritage before the start of 2026.
