Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has responded positively to an invitation from United States President Donald J. Trump to join, as a founding member, a newly proposed Peace Council aimed at advancing conflict resolution and stability worldwide.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, the ministry confirmed that the invitation was extended personally by President Trump. The proposed council is intended to “contribute to peace efforts in the Middle East and adopt a new approach to resolving conflicts around the world.”
According to the statement, membership of the Peace Council will be limited to a select group of internationally recognised leaders committed to promoting a secure and prosperous future for coming generations. Moroccan officials described the invitation as a reflection of international recognition of King Mohammed VI’s leadership and his role as a key global actor for peace, as well as a sign of the confidence he enjoys among the US administration and the wider international community.

While welcoming President Trump’s vision and commitment to peace, King Mohammed VI agreed to participate in the initiative. Morocco will formally ratify the founding charter of the Peace Council, which is expected to be established as an international organisation with a mandate focused on promoting stability, restoring governance and ensuring sustainable peace in regions affected or threatened by conflict.
The council’s work will be based on practical cooperation, effective action and results-oriented partnerships, with participation strictly by invitation of the US president.
The statement also noted that Morocco welcomed the announcement of the second phase of President Trump’s broader peace plan, as well as the formal creation of a National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, intended to function as a temporary transitional body.

Reaffirming its long-standing position on the Middle East, Morocco reiterated its commitment to a just, comprehensive and lasting peace. The kingdom stressed its continued support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side in peace with Israel.
