Britain’s monarch, King Charles III, will host Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on a state visit to the United Kingdom on March 18–19, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.
In a statement released on Saturday, the palace said President Tinubu will be received by the King and other senior members of the royal family during the two-day visit, marking a significant moment in diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Africa’s most populous nation.
The state visit is expected to include formal ceremonial engagements, bilateral discussions, and high-level meetings focused on strengthening political, economic, and cultural ties between the two countries. Nigeria and the UK share long-standing historical links, with cooperation spanning trade, security, education, climate action, and diaspora engagement.

President Tinubu’s visit comes at a time when London is seeking to deepen partnerships across Africa, particularly with key regional powers such as Nigeria, while Abuja continues efforts to attract foreign investment and expand international cooperation amid domestic economic reforms.
Details of the programme, including meetings with UK government officials and potential agreements, are expected to be announced closer to the visit.
The state visit underscores Nigeria’s strategic importance to the UK and highlights renewed diplomatic engagement between the two countries under the reign of King Charles III.
