The Kingdom of Denmark is seeking greater collaboration with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to reinforce the ongoing partnership aimed at fostering peace, security, and stability across the West African region.
Ambassador of Denmark to the Republic of Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr. Jens Ole Bach Hansen, led a delegation to the ECOWAS Commission, where he emphasized Denmark’s commitment to deepening ties with the regional body. The discussions focused on areas of mutual interest, including economic development, governance, climate resilience, and capacity building for peacekeeping and conflict prevention.
Mr. Hansen highlighted the importance of joint initiatives that not only address immediate security challenges but also support long-term sustainable development across West Africa. He noted that Denmark’s engagement with ECOWAS reflects a broader strategy to promote regional stability, inclusive growth, and effective multilateral cooperation.

The ECOWAS Commission welcomed Denmark’s interest in expanding collaboration, noting that such partnerships enhance the capacity of the organization to implement its mandates in peacekeeping, conflict resolution, and socio-economic development. The Commission expressed optimism that strengthened cooperation with Denmark would result in more effective programs and initiatives across member states.
Both parties agreed to explore concrete mechanisms for collaboration, including technical assistance, training programs, and joint projects aimed at addressing pressing regional challenges, from security threats to economic integration.
The meeting reaffirmed Denmark’s role as a key development and diplomatic partner in West Africa, highlighting shared goals of peace, security, and prosperity for the region.
