Israel and Lebanon agree to 10-day ceasefire, Trump says

Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire following talks in Washington, former U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday, in a development aimed at cooling tensions in the wider Middle East conflict.

The temporary truce is set to begin at 5 p.m. Eastern Time, according to Trump, who announced the deal in a post on Truth Social.

“The leaders of Israel and Lebanon agreed to a 10-day ceasefire after officials from the two countries met in Washington,” Trump said, adding that he had held “excellent conversations” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.

Trump said both sides had agreed to pursue steps toward de-escalation and eventual peace, describing the arrangement as a potential breakthrough after months of heightened regional tensions.

He added that he plans to invite Netanyahu and Aoun to the White House for what he called “the first meaningful talks between Israel and Lebanon since 1983.”

“Both sides want to see PEACE, and I believe that will happen, quickly,” Trump wrote.

The announcement comes amid broader international efforts to contain instability in the Middle East, where multiple conflicts have strained diplomatic relations and heightened fears of wider escalation.

According to Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Caine will work with both countries to help secure a more lasting agreement.

The ceasefire, if implemented as announced, would mark a rare pause in hostilities between Israel and Lebanon, whose relations have long been shaped by periodic military clashes and political tensions involving armed groups in the region.

The move also comes as Washington intensifies diplomatic engagement across the Middle East, seeking to reduce risks of a broader regional war that has already disrupted energy markets, trade routes and global financial stability.

Officials have not yet released independent confirmation from either Israeli or Lebanese authorities.
