Paystack unveils AI-powered dashboard to simplify payment insights for African businesses

Fintech company Paystack has launched a redesigned merchant dashboard powered by artificial intelligence, aiming to help businesses across Africa better understand payment data, revenue trends and operational performance in real time.

The new system, rolled out on May 21, marks the company’s first full platform redesign in nearly a decade and introduces an AI-driven “Command Centre” that allows merchants to interact with their financial data using natural language queries.

The upgrade is designed to reduce reliance on traditional reporting tools by enabling users to ask direct questions such as transaction status, revenue fluctuations and payment channel performance, with responses generated instantly from verified business data.

Paystack, which serves more than 300,000 organisations across Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya and Côte d’Ivoire, said the redesign reflects the growing integration of artificial intelligence into African financial infrastructure.

The platform rebuild was developed using Pax, Paystack’s internal design system, and introduces a simplified interface that groups services into two main categories — payments and products — to improve navigation and scalability.

A key feature of the system is its AI-native Command Centre, which uses large language models combined with structured data retrieval and analytics tools to generate contextual answers in text, charts or tables depending on user queries.

Businesses can use the tool to investigate issues such as declining revenue, transaction disputes or changes in settlement patterns without navigating multiple reporting dashboards.

The system also includes full mobile parity, allowing users to access all features across smartphones, tablets and desktop devices, as well as the introduction of a dark mode interface.

According to Paystack, the redesign aims to shift the dashboard experience from static reporting to an interactive decision-making tool that helps businesses respond more quickly to financial and operational changes.

“The goal is to make the Dashboard feel less like a static reporting tool and more like an intelligent command centre,” said Dara Assim-Ita, who led the rebuild.

Paystack operates as one of Africa’s leading payments infrastructure providers, processing transactions for startups, SMEs, enterprises and government agencies across multiple markets.

The company said the new dashboard was built with strong privacy and compliance safeguards, including internal data protection assessments and adversarial testing to ensure that AI-generated responses are grounded in verified merchant data.

To support the system, Paystack developed an internal service known as Project Canvas API, which connects AI models with its payment infrastructure while enforcing safety controls and regulatory requirements.

Analysts say the move reflects a broader trend in African fintech, where artificial intelligence is increasingly being embedded into core financial systems to improve efficiency, reduce operational friction and enhance decision-making for businesses.

Paystack said further updates are expected as additional products are integrated into the new architecture, expanding the role of AI across its wider ecosystem of payment and commerce tools.
