Kuwait tightens airport check-in rules to streamline passenger processing

Kuwait’s aviation authorities have introduced new check-in counter closing times at Kuwait International Airport, aimed at improving operational efficiency and reducing congestion during peak travel periods.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said the new rules took effect on June 1, 2026, and apply to all passengers departing from the country’s main airport.

Under the revised guidelines, check-in counters for flights to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and other Arab destinations will now close one hour before scheduled departure times.

For all other international flights, check-in counters will close one hour and 30 minutes prior to departure.

The DGCA urged travellers to arrive at the airport early to complete all necessary procedures and avoid missing flights due to stricter cut-off times.

The authority said the changes are part of broader efforts to streamline passenger flow, improve airport efficiency and enhance overall travel experience at Kuwait International Airport.

Officials noted that clearer and earlier check-in deadlines will help reduce last-minute congestion at counters and allow smoother coordination of boarding procedures.

The new policy reflects a wider trend among regional airports tightening operational timelines as air travel demand continues to recover and passenger volumes increase across the Middle East.

Kuwait International Airport, a key hub for both regional and international travel, has been undergoing various operational upgrades aimed at improving capacity and service delivery.

Aviation analysts say such measures are increasingly common as airports seek to balance security requirements, passenger convenience and growing traffic volumes.

Travellers have been advised to plan ahead, particularly during busy travel seasons, as stricter enforcement of check-in deadlines could lead to higher numbers of missed flights for late arrivals.

The DGCA said it will continue monitoring the impact of the new rules and make adjustments where necessary to ensure smooth airport operations while maintaining service standards.
