For two decades, Delta Airlines has played a vital role in strengthening connectivity between Ghana and the United States through its daily non-stop service linking Accra and New York City.
The airline further expanded its presence last year with the introduction of a seasonal Accra–Atlanta route, creating additional travel, tourism and business opportunities between the two countries.
Over the past 20 years, Delta’s operations have helped facilitate trade, investment, cultural exchange and family connections, while supporting Ghana’s growing role as a regional business and tourism hub in West Africa.

Congratulations to Delta Airlines on this significant milestone and on two decades of connecting people, businesses and communities across the Atlantic.
Delta Air Lines began operations in Ghana in 2006, becoming the first U.S. carrier to offer direct flights between the United States and Ghana. The inaugural service connected Accra’s Kotoka International Airport with Atlanta, providing a direct link between West Africa and one of the largest aviation hubs in the United States.
Over the years, Delta adjusted its network to reflect changing market demand, eventually focusing on direct services between Accra and New York City. The route became one of the airline’s most important services in Africa, serving business travellers, tourists, students and the large Ghanaian diaspora community in the United States.

Ghana has remained a strategic market for Delta because of its political stability, growing economy and strong commercial ties with the United States. The airline’s presence has supported trade, investment and tourism flows while facilitating travel for thousands of Ghanaians living abroad.
In 2025, Delta expanded its Ghana operations by introducing a seasonal Accra–Atlanta service, restoring a direct connection to its largest global hub and providing passengers with access to hundreds of onward destinations across North America and beyond.

The airline’s growth in Ghana reflects broader strengthening relations between Ghana and the United States, particularly in commerce, education, tourism and cultural exchange. Over the past two decades, Delta has transported hundreds of thousands of passengers on its Ghana routes and has become one of the leading international carriers serving the country.

Today, Ghana remains one of Delta’s key destinations in Africa, alongside services to other major cities on the continent, underscoring the airline’s long-term commitment to connecting Africa with the United States.
