Kuwait Airways has launched its first commercial flights to Zurich, Switzerland, marking a new addition to its international route network as part of its summer operating schedule.

The national carrier said the service will operate twice weekly, on Fridays and Sundays, aimed at strengthening connectivity between Kuwait and Switzerland and tapping into seasonal travel demand.

The expansion is part of a broader strategy by Kuwait Airways to widen its global footprint and introduce destinations that align with passenger demand, according to acting chief executive Abdulwahab Al-Shatti.

Al-Shatti said Zurich has been selected due to its popularity as a summer destination, adding that the airline remains focused on offering passengers greater travel options through continuous network growth.

He said the new route reflects the airline’s commitment to improving operational performance, service quality and overall passenger experience as it modernises its operations and expands its international reach.

Kuwait Airways has in recent years pursued an expansion strategy aimed at rebuilding its global network following fleet upgrades and efforts to enhance competitiveness among regional and international carriers.

Zurich, a major financial and tourism hub in Europe, is expected to serve both leisure travellers and business passengers, strengthening ties between Kuwait and Switzerland.

The airline said the introduction of the route forms part of its wider seasonal schedule adjustments designed to respond to peak travel demand during the summer period.

Al-Shatti reaffirmed that Kuwait Airways is implementing its operational plans according to high industry standards, reflecting its role as Kuwait’s national carrier and its ambition to improve connectivity across key global markets.

The launch comes amid broader competition among Gulf carriers to expand long-haul and seasonal routes, particularly to Europe, as demand for premium leisure and business travel continues to recover.

Aviation analysts say such network expansions are increasingly important for Gulf airlines seeking to diversify revenue streams and strengthen their hubs as global transit points.

Kuwait Airways’ new Zurich service adds to a growing list of European destinations as the carrier continues to rebuild and modernise its international network.
