Algerian mobile operator Djezzy said Sunday it has expanded its 5G network to 10 additional provinces, bringing total coverage to 18 since the service was first launched in eight provinces.
The company invited subscribers in the newly covered areas to join its 5G plans, which offer speeds up to ten times faster than 4G and significantly lower latency, enabling near-instant downloads, Ultra HD streaming, online gaming, and improved performance for video calls and other real-time applications.
Djezzy said the expansion aims to meet rising demand for data-intensive services as digital adoption accelerates across Algeria. Officials highlighted potential applications in smart city projects, such as traffic management, public lighting and municipal services, as well as in agriculture, where connected sensors and drones can monitor crops and livestock.
The operator also cited opportunities in telemedicine, industrial automation, and large-scale Internet of Things (IoT) deployments, all of which are considered key components of Industry 4.0. For consumers, 5G enhances bandwidth-heavy services, including cloud gaming, augmented reality and virtual reality on mobile devices.
Industry body GSMA has said 5G can improve connectivity in regions where fixed broadband remains limited and serves as a driver of digital transformation, particularly for startups targeting younger, data-intensive users.
