Apple is working to make its CarPlay in-car system compatible with third-party artificial intelligence chatbots, including tools such as ChatGPT, in a move that signals a broader opening of its automotive software ecosystem.
According to reports, Apple engineers are developing support that would allow AI chatbot apps to run within CarPlay over the coming months. The effort would enable drivers to interact with conversational AI tools directly through their vehicle’s infotainment display, expanding CarPlay’s functionality beyond navigation, calls, messaging, and music.
The initiative reflects Apple’s response to the growing demand for generative AI features across consumer technology, as rivals increasingly embed AI assistants into cars, smartphones, and operating systems.
