Brazil has officially expressed its interest in hosting the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, communicating the bid to FIFA President Gianni Infantino during a meeting in Brasília on Monday, January 26, 2026. The high-level gathering included Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, CBF President Samir Xaud, CBF Vice-President Gustavo Dias Henrique, and coach Carlo Ancelotti as part of discussions that also covered preparations for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
According to Brazilian media reports, the request was “costurada” (arranged) by Vice-President of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) Gustavo Dias Henrique, with Samir Xaud and other football leaders emphasising Brazil’s capacity to host major global football events. Brazil’s bid follows months of behind-the-scenes work by the CBF, which has been positioning the country as a strong candidate to host the 2029 tournament, building on a conversation between Xaud and Infantino in June 2025 during a FIFA summit in Miami where the idea was first floated.
FIFA has not yet decided on a host for the 2029 edition, which will be the second under the expanded 32-team format scheduled to take place in June–July 2029. In past discussions, Brazil has been one of several potential hosts that also includes bids from other regions, and the decision on the host country will be taken by FIFA in due course.
The 2029 FIFA Club World Cup is expected to feature top club champions from across all six continental confederations, and Brazil’s bid is seen as leveraging the country’s strong football culture and infrastructure, along with its experience hosting major FIFA events.
