Cambodia to join Trump’s Board of Peace, prime minister says

Cambodia will join U.S. President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace, the country’s Prime Minister Hun Manet announced in a Facebook post on January 26, 2026. Hun Manet said Cambodia’s participation in the initiative demonstrates its goodwill and firm commitment to promoting global peace.

The invitation to join the Board of Peace was issued by Trump as part of a broader diplomatic effort tied to his initiative aimed at conflict resolution and post-conflict planning. The Board of Peace was launched by Trump and signed by representatives of several countries during the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2026, as part of a charter intended to bring together states committed to peace and reconstruction.

Hun Manet described Cambodia’s acceptance of the invitation as a reflection of the nation’s longstanding advocacy for peaceful solutions within the region and beyond. The announcement came during a meeting with Admiral Samuel J. Paparo, commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, highlighting deepening cooperation between Phnom Penh and Washington, including in defense and regional stability.

Cambodia’s decision also follows a peace accord between Cambodia and Thailand that was signed under the auspices of international mediation, including support from Trump, which helped resolve past border tensions between the two countries. Cambodia’s participation in the Board of Peace will align it with a group that includes other nations committed to the initiative, amid ongoing discussions about the board’s role in global diplomacy.
