Cameroon injects CFA9bn to boost Semry and Unvda rice output in 2026

Cameroon has announced a CFA9 billion subsidy to strengthen rice production through the Yagoua Rice Expansion and Modernization Company (Semry) and the Upper Nun Valley Development Authority (Unvda) in 2026. The funding aims to support an additional 30,000 tons of rice output next year.

The initiative forms part of the Integrated Agro-Pastoral and Fisheries Import-Substitution Plan (Piisah) for the 2026 fiscal year. Resources will focus on expanding production capacity in key rice-growing regions, including the Ndop Valley under Unvda. Planned measures include acquiring agricultural machinery such as combine harvesters and tractors, modernizing farming operations, and providing working capital to finance the purchase of paddy rice from local producers.
