Cameroon’s export revenues rise 14% in first half of 2025, driven by cocoa

Cameroon generated CFA 1,705.4 billion (US$3.04 billion) in export revenues in the first half of 2025, marking a 14.44% year-on-year increase compared with CFA 1,490.2 billion (US$2.65 billion) recorded over the same period in 2024, according to an economic outlook note from the Ministry of Finance. The increase represents an additional CFA 215.2 billion (US$383 million) and was driven largely by stronger performance in agricultural exports, particularly cocoa.

The report shows that cocoa and cocoa product exports recorded the largest gain, rising by CFA 377.2 billion (US$672 million) over the period. Other agricultural exports also posted growth, with plantain banana exports increasing by CFA 16.8 billion (US$30 million) and coffee exports rising by CFA 4.7 billion (US$8.4 million). These gains underscored the continued importance of cash crops to Cameroon’s export earnings amid favourable market conditions and improved production levels.

However, the overall growth in export revenues was partly offset by declines in several other sectors, notably energy and raw materials. Crude oil export revenues fell by CFA 154.6 billion (US$275 million), while liquefied natural gas exports declined by CFA 65.4 billion ($116 million). The report also recorded lower earnings from raw cotton, which dropped by CFA 19.1 billion ($34 million), sawn timber, down CFA 13.6 billion (US$24 million), and logs, down CFA 5.3 billion (US$9.4 million).

Despite these setbacks, the strong performance of agricultural exports, led by cocoa, helped sustain overall export growth during the first half of the year, highlighting the sector’s stabilising role in Cameroon’s external trade at a time of volatility in global energy markets.
