Coursera and Udemy, two of the largest global online learning platforms, have entered a merger agreement valued at approximately US$2.5 billion. The deal, expected to close in 2026, combines Coursera’s accredited course offerings with U’s library of professional development and skills-based courses.
The merger is structured as a stock-and-cash transaction, with Coursera shareholders retaining a majority stake in the combined entity. Leadership will include Coursera CEO Andrew Ng and Udemy co-founder Eren Bali in key roles overseeing strategic operations and platform integration.

The combined platform will serve over 120 million learners globally, spanning universities, corporations, and individual users. Coursera contributes strong university partnerships and accredited programs, while Udemy adds a flexible marketplace model with over 250,000 courses in technology, business, and creative skills.
The merger aims to streamline course discovery, improve credentialing, expand international reach, and invest in AI-driven adaptive learning technologies.
