Egypt’s engineering exports hit US$6.5bn in 2025, target US$7.5bn in 2026

Egypt’s engineering sector posted record-breaking exports in 2025, reaching approximately US$6.48 billion, up 13 percent from the previous year, as the country’s manufacturers continued to expand globally, the Engineering Export Council of Egypt (EECE) said on Monday.

The performance marks the highest level ever recorded by the sector and reflects a sustained export boom over the past five years. Engineering exports grew from US$2.29 billion in 2020 to US$6.48 billion in 2025, underscoring the impact of a comprehensive export strategy aimed at high-value industries, new markets, and deeper integration into global supply chains.

Strong Performance Across Sectors

According to Sherif El-Sayad, EECE Chairperson, the growth stems from an expanding exporter base, improved competitiveness of Egyptian engineering products, and a strategic shift toward higher value-added manufacturing. “Our exporters have diversified markets and product lines, and the sector’s growth is structural, not a short-term surge,” El-Sayad said.

Cables led the sector in 2025, generating around US$1.5 billion, closely followed by home appliances at US$1.46 billion. Automotive components surpassed US$1 billion, while electrical industries reached US$643.2 million, and transport equipment totaled US$267.5 million, highlighting the sector’s diversified export base.

Several subsectors posted exceptional growth rates. Metals exports surged 273 percent, technical and medical industries rose 32 percent, machinery and equipment by 30 percent, blades by 26 percent, and electrical and electronic industries by 23 percent. Copper wires were the top exported product at US$777 million, followed by television screens at US$674 million. Other notable performers included coaxial cables (US$538 million), wiring harnesses (US$517 million), and high-voltage electric cables (US$180 million).

Global Reach Expands

Europe remained the largest regional destination, absorbing nearly $3 billion of exports, up 16 percent year-on-year, followed by Asia at US$2.3 billion and Africa at US$994.8 million. North American exports recorded the fastest growth, surging 332 percent to US$291 million, while South American shipments increased 18 percent to US$28 million, reflecting a successful diversification strategy.

Saudi Arabia topped individual markets, importing US$855.5 million, followed by the United Kingdom (US$551.2 million), Turkey (US$550.7 million), the UAE (US$377.6 million), and Iraq (US$352.1 million). Other major destinations included Germany, the United States, France, Libya, and Algeria.

Outlook for 2026

Looking ahead, the EECE is targeting US$7.5 billion in engineering exports for 2026, aiming for sustainable annual growth of around 15 percent. El-Sayad said the roadmap prioritizes expanding local manufacturing, increasing the use of domestically produced components, and focusing on high value-added sectors such as automotive parts, buses, and heavy machinery.

The council is also working to leverage free trade agreements to penetrate Latin American markets and attract foreign investment while promoting Egyptian brands globally. In 2026, Egypt plans to intensify participation in international trade fairs across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America, in addition to organising outbound trade missions and hosting international buyer delegations.

Specialized training programmes for exporters will cover logistics, artificial intelligence-driven digital marketing, supply chain management, quality control, and branding. The EECE will continue recognising innovation and competitiveness through its Engineering Export Excellence Award, reinforcing the sector’s contribution to economic growth.

El-Sayad said: “Egypt’s engineering sector is steadily moving up the global value chain. We aim to build on this momentum by producing high-quality, competitive products and expanding our international presence.”
