Italian Energy firm, Eni has inaugurated a major gas processing plant in northern Angola through Azule Energy, its 50/50 joint venture with bp and operator of the New Gas Consortium (NGC), the Italian energy group said Thursday.
The Soyo facility the centrepiece of Angola’s first non-associated gas development can process around 400 million standard cubic feet of gas per day and 20,000 barrels of oil per day. Gas from the offshore Quiluma and Maboqueiro fields will be treated on site and supplied to the Angola LNG plant for export and domestic use.

Eni said the launch “marks a decisive step in Angola’s positioning as a strategic player in the global natural gas market” and strengthens the country’s energy diversification plans, with knock-on benefits for sectors such as fertiliser production.
The plant began operating in November 2025, just two years after the project’s groundbreaking and six months ahead of schedule.
Azule Energy operates the NGC with a 37.4% stake, alongside Cabinda Gulf Oil Company (31%), Sonangol E&P (19.8%), TotalEnergies (11.8%) and ANPG as concessionaire.
Angolan President João Lourenço, Mineral Resources and Oil Minister Diamantino Azevedo and ANPG board chairman Paulino Jeronimo attended the inauguration ceremony.
