Eritrea has strongly denied recent accusations from Ethiopia that Eritrean military forces are operating inside Ethiopian territory, escalating tensions between the two neighbouring countries in the Horn of Africa.
In response to claims made by Ethiopian authorities earlier this week, the Eritrean government issued a firm rejection, stating that no Eritrean troops are present on Ethiopian soil. Asmara described the Ethiopian assertions as unfounded and insisted that Eritrea respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its neighbour.
The dispute comes amid ongoing friction between the two nations over issues related to the aftermath of the conflict in northern Ethiopia. Addis Ababa has repeatedly accused Eritrean forces of remaining deployed in parts of the country, particularly in areas of the Tigray region, despite agreements aimed at ending hostilities. Eritrea has long denied these allegations, maintaining that its troops withdrew following the cessation of major combat operations.

The latest public statements underscore the fragile state of relations between Eritrea and Ethiopia. Eritrean officials argued that Ethiopian claims are politically motivated and do not reflect on-the-ground realities. Asmara called for respect for accurate reporting and cautioned against rhetoric that could inflame regional instability.
Meanwhile, Ethiopian authorities have reiterated calls for the withdrawal of any foreign forces from its territory as part of broader efforts to stabilise affected regions and advance post-conflict recovery. Addis Ababa maintains that the presence of external troops complicates security arrangements and hinders trust-building among local communities.
Regional analysts have warned that continued public disputes between the two countries could strain diplomatic engagement and undermine efforts to secure lasting peace in the Horn of Africa. They say transparent dialogue and constructive diplomacy will be essential to managing tensions and ensuring mutual cooperation on security concerns.

Neither side has provided independent verification of troop movements, and international observers have called for clarity and restraint to avoid escalation.
