G20 summit closes in South Africa, Ramaphosa hands presidency to United States

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday formally closed this year’s G20 summit in Johannesburg, handing over the presidency of the group to the United States for 2026.

In his closing remarks, Ramaphosa thanked leaders for what he called “constructive engagement” over the two-day meeting, which focused on global economic stability, sustainable development and strengthening cooperation between advanced and emerging economies.

“This G20 summit is formally closed and now moves on to the next president of the G20, which is the United States where we shall see each other again next year,” President Cyril Ramaphosa said.
