Gabon lifts national team suspension, reinstates Aubameyang and Ecuele Manga

Gabon’s Football Federation (FEGAFOOT) has officially reversed the suspension of the national team, ending weeks of uncertainty around the Panthers’ international status. The decision also restores senior players Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bruno Ecuele Manga, who resumes his role as captain.

In a statement released by the federation, FEGAFOOT confirmed that all disciplinary measures affecting the men’s senior national team have been lifted following consultations with the Gabonese Ministry of Sports. The move clears the way for Gabon to fully resume preparations for upcoming international competitions, including the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.

The suspension, which had cast doubt over player call-ups and technical preparations, was part of a broader standoff between football authorities and government stakeholders over governance and technical direction. With the impasse now resolved, attention has shifted to rebuilding the national team structure.

As part of the resolution, the Sports Ministry has formally requested that FEGAFOOT submit a comprehensive plan for the formation of a new technical team. This plan is expected to outline coaching appointments, performance benchmarks, and a roadmap for competitive readiness ahead of the next Africa Cup of Nations qualifying cycle.

The reinstatement of Aubameyang, Gabon’s all-time leading scorer, and veteran defender Ecuele Manga is seen as a major boost for the Panthers. Both players bring experience and leadership at a time when stability is critical for the squad’s transition and qualification ambitions.

Football analysts note that the lifting of the bans signals a reset in relations between the government and the federation, with priority now placed on sporting results rather than administrative disputes. Gabon is expected to accelerate technical appointments and player assessments in the coming weeks as preparations intensify.
