Germany commits €88m to African Union for 2026–2027 cooperation

Germany has pledged €88 million in financial support to the African Union (AU) for the 2026–2027 period, reaffirming its role as one of the Union’s key bilateral partners in advancing continental development priorities. The announcement was made during a meeting in Addis Ababa between AU Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf and Germany’s Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Johann David Wadephul, where both sides underscored the strength and strategic depth of AU-Germany cooperation.

The funding commitment forms part of ongoing development cooperation between Berlin and the AU, aligned with the AU’s Agenda 2063 strategic framework for Africa’s socio-economic transformation. Germany’s support, negotiated as part of regular development dialogue, is intended to help the AU advance priority areas such as peace and security, trade and regional integration, health security, and governance.
