Ghana and Colombia strengthen ties as Vice Presidents meet in Accra

Ghana’s Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on Thursday welcomed her Colombian counterpart, Francia Elena Márquez Mina, to Accra, marking a milestone in bilateral relations and signalling a commitment to deeper cooperation between the two countries.

The visit, the second official trip to Ghana by Vice President Márquez Mina since assuming office, focused on expanding collaboration across trade, investment, climate action, education and cultural exchange. Both leaders emphasised shared priorities in sustainable development and inclusive economic growth.

Ghana and Colombia strengthen ties

Officials said discussions included opportunities to boost agricultural cooperation, strengthen bilateral trade links, and explore joint ventures in renewable energy and technology. Ghana and Colombia also reaffirmed their commitment to increased people-to-people ties through education exchanges and tourism promotion.

Vice President Opoku-Agyemang described the meeting as a “renewal of friendship and mutual respect,” noting that Ghana looks forward to enhanced cooperation with Colombia across multiple sectors.
