Japan Motors Trading Company (JMTC), in partnership with Foton Motor, has unveiled an advanced Foton Telematics system for its latest lineup of heavy duty trucks in Ghana. The announcement was made during a stakeholder engagement event on December 16, 2025, at the Fiesta Royale Hotel in Accra, marking the first introduction of Chinese trucks equipped with this technology in the Ghanaian market.
The telematics system provides real-time fleet management capabilities, including driver behavior monitoring, fuel theft detection, and prompt servicing alerts, offering companies actionable insights to optimize operations, reduce costs, and improve safety. The event gathered stakeholders from the logistics, transport, mining, construction, and oil and gas sectors. Presentations detailed the features, performance, and operational advantages of Foton’s latest offerings, followed by an interactive Q&A session.
Trucks showcased included the Auman R 6×4 GTL AMT Tractor Head, Auman R 4×2 GTL E Tractor Head, Auman C 6×4 Tipper Truck, Tunland G7 4×4 Pickup, and the View CS2 16-Seater Bus, designed to meet diverse commercial needs in Ghana.

JMTC General Manager of Sales and Marketing, Amine Kabbara, highlighted Foton’s rapid growth in Ghana, with sales doubling or tripling for certain products, and noted that Japan Motors received the Outstanding Dealer Performance Award at the recent Foton Global Conference in Beijing. Looking ahead, JMTC plans to introduce new models in 2026, including an 8×4 rigid truck, automatic double cabin pickup, new heavy duty powertrains, and a range of electric light duty commercial vehicles.
Foton West Africa Managing Director Simon Yang reaffirmed the strong partnership with Japan Motors, emphasizing a shared commitment to delivering dependable products, innovation, and long-term value.
Sales Manager for Heavy Duty Division, Theodore Tetteh Aplerku, outlined key advantages of the new trucks: enhanced engine power, improved ground clearance, optimized fuel efficiency, and a superior 3-year/450,000 km warranty. The telematics system allows fleet managers to track driving patterns, prevent fuel theft, receive real-time maintenance alerts, and gain centralized oversight of vehicle operations.

The introduction of telematics addresses critical inefficiencies in Ghana’s transport sector, helping operators reduce operational costs, enhance safety, and improve overall fleet performance. JMTC has been Foton’s sole distributor in Ghana for over 16 years and operates a vehicle assembly plant in Tema, producing models like the two-tonne truck and 16-seater bus locally.
The engagement forms part of JMTC’s ongoing strategy to strengthen industry relationships, gather customer feedback, and promote solutions that meet the operational demands of Ghana’s key sectors. Observers note that telematics-equipped trucks could significantly improve standards in the commercial transport industry, offering fleet operators competitive advantages through efficiency, lower costs, and compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
