Kenya Airways sponsors four golf professionals for PGK Equator Tour

Kenya Airways has deepened its support for local sports after announcing sponsorship for four top Kenyan golf professionals competing in the PGK Equator Tour. The national carrier will back Isaiah Otuke, Jastas Madoya, Jacob Okello and veteran Dismas Indiza throughout the tour’s 2025 season.

The partnership with the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) is aimed at strengthening elite golf development and improving the international competitiveness of Kenyan players. KQ officials said the sponsorship reflects the airline’s broader strategy of investing in talent that elevates Kenya’s presence on the regional and global sporting stage.

The Equator Tour, introduced to create a more structured and competitive platform for professional golfers in East Africa, continues to grow in visibility. The participation of top-ranked athletes, supported by a major national brand, adds weight to efforts to professionalise the sport and widen its appeal across the country.

Kenya’s golf sector has historically relied on limited sponsorship despite producing standout performers, with Dismas Indiza and Jacob Okello among those who have carried the country’s flag in international tournaments. Indiza, one of Kenya’s most decorated golfers, has played across major African circuits for decades, while Okello is best known for his dramatic runner-up finish at the 1998 Kenya Open, still regarded as one of the sport’s most memorable moments in the country.

Jastas Madoya and Isaiah Otuke represent the next generation of Kenyan professionals, both having registered strong performances in recent PGK events. PGK leadership has described the Kenya Airways partnership as timely, noting that stable sponsorship is essential to help athletes access training facilities, travel support, and competitive exposure.

Kenya Airways has previously supported athletics, rugby and junior sports programmes, and its renewed investment in golf comes at a time when the country is working to expand its influence in global sports tourism. Kenya hosts several major tournaments, including the Magical Kenya Open, which is part of the DP World Tour, attracting international players and fans.

The airline said the sponsorship package will cover travel logistics, tournament-related expenses, and promotional support for the four athletes throughout the tour. Officials expect the collaboration to build momentum for a stronger professional golf ecosystem and inspire younger players seeking pathways into elite competition.

For PGK, the partnership marks a positive shift after years of financial constraints that forced many local golfers to rely heavily on personal resources. The organisation hopes the Kenya Airways model will encourage other corporate institutions to invest in the sport.

As the Equator Tour continues, the four sponsored professionals will represent both PGK and Kenya Airways in tournaments across the region, with expectations that the additional support will translate into stronger performances and increased visibility for Kenyan golf.
