Nigeria says Africa Energy Bank headquarters ready for take-off

Nigeria has completed all commitments required as host country for the Africa Energy Bank (AEB), with the new headquarters in Abuja fully built, furnished and ready for operations, the minister of state for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, has said.

Lokpobiri, who inspected the facility in Abuja, said the government had delivered all infrastructure promised to the bank’s promoters, paving the way for its formal launch.

“I came to inspect the headquarters of the Africa Energy Bank, and I am happy to disclose to the world, Nigerians, and Africans that Nigeria has delivered on all the obligations made for us to fulfil as the host country,” he said. “The headquarters is ready, tastefully furnished in the best location, and so we are ready for the bank to take off.”

He added that Nigeria was now awaiting final coordination with the African Petroleum Producers’ Organisation (APPO) and the African Export-Import Bank, which are championing the institution.

The AEB is expected to serve as a dedicated source of financing for Africa’s energy sector, supporting investments in oil, gas and emerging transition projects across the continent.
