Qatar Airways has become the first airline in the world to install Starlink satellite internet on its Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner aircraft, marking a major milestone in in‑flight connectivity as the carrier expands ultra‑fast Wi‑Fi across its global fleet.
The Doha‑based airline announced that three of its Dreamliners are now equipped with Starlink, joining nearly 120 widebody aircraft, including Boeing 777s and Airbus A350s, that already offer passengers free gate‑to‑gate internet with speeds up to 500 megabits per second (Mbps). This rollout makes Qatar Airways the first carrier globally to secure certification and install Starlink on Boeing 787‑8 aircraft, extending what has become the world’s largest Starlink‑enabled widebody fleet.

The airline completed installation across its entire Airbus A350 fleet in December 2025, just eight months after beginning that programme, and previously equipped its Boeing 777 fleet with the technology. Combined, more than 58% of Qatar Airways’ widebody fleet now offers ultra‑high‑speed satellite connectivity across routes spanning the Americas, Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Starlink’s technology, operated by SpaceX, uses a constellation of low‑Earth‑orbit satellites to deliver broadband‑level internet access at altitudes of 30,000 feet and above. The service supports uninterrupted streaming, video calls, real‑time work and browsing that can rival or exceed many ground‑based home internet connections, a feature that has proven popular with passengers since its launch on Qatar Airways flights in October 2024.

Since introducing Starlink across its fleet, Qatar Airways says more than 11 million passengers have used the free service, representing nearly half of all passengers globally who connected via Starlink in 2025. The airline’s rapid rollout, completing installations on the 777 and A350 within roughly 14 months, is considered one of the fastest and most ambitious widebody in‑flight connectivity programmes in aviation history.
Industry observers say this achievement reinforces Qatar Airways’ reputation as a leader in airline technology innovation. The carrier, named World’s Best Airline by Skytrax in 2025, is also pushing Starlink connectivity to more routes and aircraft as it works toward equipping its remaining widebody jets.
