South African law enforcement and immigration officials conducted a raid at a refugee processing centre in the country that handles applications for the United States refugee program. The operation led to the arrest of seven Kenyan nationals who were found to be working at the facility illegally, the Department of Home Affairs confirmed on Wednesday.
The ministry stated that the arrests are part of ongoing efforts to enforce immigration laws and ensure that foreign nationals comply with South Africa’s labour and residency regulations. Authorities emphasized that all individuals working in sensitive immigration-related roles must have valid permits and proper documentation.

The identities of the arrested individuals have not been released, and they are currently in police custody pending further investigation. The raid underscores broader concerns about illegal employment and residency violations within facilities handling international migration and refugee applications.
South African officials have pledged to continue monitoring such centres to maintain compliance with legal frameworks and safeguard both local and international stakeholders.
