Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has held bilateral talks with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan in Dar es Salaam, with discussions centred on boosting trade, expanding infrastructure cooperation and advancing regional peace and security.
The meeting brought together senior officials from both governments as the two East African neighbours sought to deepen economic integration and address shared regional challenges. According to officials, the talks reviewed progress on existing bilateral agreements and explored new areas of cooperation aligned with East African Community (EAC) objectives.
Trade featured prominently on the agenda, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to removing non-tariff barriers and facilitating smoother cross-border commerce. Uganda and Tanzania are key trading partners within the EAC, and both sides acknowledged the importance of strengthening supply chains, improving customs coordination and supporting private sector growth.
Infrastructure development was another major focus, particularly transport and energy projects linking the two countries. The leaders discussed road, rail and pipeline connectivity, including initiatives aimed at easing the movement of goods from Uganda to the Tanzanian coast. Such projects are seen as critical to reducing logistics costs and enhancing regional competitiveness.
Regional peace and security issues were also addressed, with Museveni and Hassan exchanging views on stability in the Great Lakes region and parts of eastern Africa. They underscored the need for continued diplomatic engagement, intelligence sharing and coordinated regional efforts to address conflict and insecurity.
The talks reaffirmed the long-standing political and economic ties between Uganda and Tanzania, with both presidents expressing confidence that closer cooperation would contribute to sustainable development and stability across the region.
