Nearly 100,000 people have been forced from their homes in northern Mozambique in recent weeks as armed groups continue to launch violent attacks across multiple districts, according to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
The agency reports that families fled after militants stormed villages, burned homes and targeted civilians, triggering a fresh wave of displacement in a region already strained by years of conflict. Many of those escaping the attacks are now seeking refuge in overcrowded shelters with limited access to food, water and medical support.
Humanitarian agencies warn that the rapid surge in displacement is placing additional pressure on aid operations, with resources already stretched thin. UNHCR has called for urgent international support to assist communities affected by the escalating violence.
Local authorities say security forces have been deployed to confront the armed groups, but shifting attack patterns continue to endanger residents and destabilise the northern provinces.
