YouTube launches dedicated app for Apple Vision Pro 2 years after headset debut

YouTube has officially launched a dedicated app for Apple Vision Pro, marking a significant expansion of its presence in spatial computing nearly two years after Apple’s mixed reality headset first hit the market.

When the Apple Vision Pro debuted in 2024, several major streaming platforms were slow to release native applications, with YouTube notably holding back. Users initially relied on the web version of the platform through Safari, which offered limited optimisation for Apple’s spatial interface.

The newly released YouTube app is designed specifically for visionOS, enabling a more immersive and seamless viewing experience. Users can now watch videos in a fully optimised environment tailored to the Vision Pro’s spatial display, enhanced resolution and gesture-based controls.

The launch signals YouTube’s stronger push into immersive media consumption, as spatial computing continues to evolve. With Vision Pro positioned as a premium device for entertainment, productivity and augmented reality experiences, YouTube’s native integration is expected to improve accessibility and user engagement on the platform.

Industry analysts note that the move aligns with growing interest in extended reality (XR) platforms, where video content remains a core driver of adoption. A native app also allows YouTube to better integrate subscription services such as YouTube Premium and YouTube TV within Apple’s ecosystem.

Apple Vision Pro, introduced as a high-end mixed reality headset, combines augmented and virtual reality elements in a standalone device powered by visionOS. The addition of a dedicated YouTube app strengthens the device’s content offering as competition in the XR market intensifies.

The rollout reflects a broader trend of major tech platforms adapting their services for spatial computing environments, signalling that immersive media may become a more mainstream part of digital consumption in the years ahead.
