Zimbabwe police arrest minors aged 11 to 17 over Bulawayo burglary spree

Police in Zimbabwe have arrested several children aged between 11 and 17 in connection with a series of burglaries targeting homes in the Nkulumane and Tshabalala suburbs of Bulawayo.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the juveniles are suspected to be part of an organised group linked to multiple housebreaking incidents, with stolen property valued at more than US$10,000. The arrests followed an increase in reports from residents who complained of repeated break-ins in the two suburbs.

Police confirmed that some of the stolen items have been recovered, including mobile phones, power banks and other household electronics. Investigations indicate that the suspects operated across several neighbourhoods, breaking into homes and removing valuables over a period of time.

The case has drawn attention because of the young ages of those involved. Police said the suspects are being held as investigations continue and will be processed through Zimbabwe’s juvenile justice system in line with existing laws governing child offenders.

Authorities have urged parents and guardians to take greater responsibility for monitoring their children’s activities, warning that lack of supervision can expose minors to criminal behaviour. Police also said investigations are ongoing to establish whether other suspects or adult accomplices may have been involved and to recover outstanding stolen property.
