Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Monday received Somali President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Cairo, underscoring Egypt’s continued support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and security.
According to Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the reception ceremony included an official guard of honour and the playing of the national anthems of both the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Federal Republic of Somalia, reflecting the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the talks, President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s firm position in support of Somalia’s territorial integrity and national institutions, stressing Cairo’s commitment to standing by the Somali government in its efforts to restore stability, combat terrorism, and strengthen state authority across the country. He noted that Somalia’s security is closely linked to the stability of the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed appreciation for Egypt’s consistent political and diplomatic support, describing Cairo as a key partner in Somalia’s path toward peace and reconstruction. He highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation in security, capacity building, and institutional development, particularly in areas related to governance and counterterrorism.
The meeting also addressed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, including education, health, infrastructure development, and economic collaboration. Both leaders emphasized the need for continued coordination on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The visit comes at a time of heightened regional dynamics in the Horn of Africa, with both Egypt and Somalia stressing the importance of respecting international law, safeguarding national sovereignty, and promoting dialogue as a means of resolving disputes.

The two presidents concluded their meeting by reaffirming their shared commitment to deepening strategic ties and advancing cooperation in support of peace, stability, and sustainable development in Somalia and the wider region.
