Discover Airlines, the leisure carrier of the Lufthansa Group, plans to expand its network to Morocco with new direct routes to Agadir and Fès starting in October 2026, as European airlines increase connectivity to North African tourist destinations.
The airline said the new services would connect Frankfurt with Agadir and Munich with Fès during the winter travel season, expanding travel options between Germany and Morocco.
Under the plan, Discover Airlines will operate two weekly flights between Frankfurt and Agadir, while the Munich–Fès route will run once a week. The Munich service will represent the only direct flight between the Bavarian city and the historic Moroccan destination.
The new routes are scheduled to operate from late October 2026 until the end of March 2027.
According to the airline, flights between Frankfurt and Agadir will operate on Mondays and Fridays, while the Munich–Fès service will depart once weekly on Sundays.
The expansion will complement Discover Airlines’ existing flights to Marrakesh, one of Morocco’s most popular tourist destinations.
With the addition of the new routes, the airline expects to operate up to 16 weekly flights to three Moroccan destinations during the winter season.
Industry analysts say the move reflects growing demand among European travellers for destinations in North Africa, particularly during the winter months when warmer climates attract holidaymakers.
Morocco’s tourism sector has recovered strongly since the COVID-19 pandemic, supported by increased airline capacity and government efforts to promote the country as a global travel destination.
Tourism remains one of the most important sectors of Morocco’s economy.
According to the World Bank, tourism contributes roughly seven percent of Morocco’s gross domestic product and accounts for more than 20 percent of the country’s export revenues.
The sector has seen steady growth in recent years as international airlines expand routes to Moroccan cities.
Government data show that Morocco welcomed about 17.4 million international visitors in 2024, a record figure that exceeded pre-pandemic levels.
Officials say improved air connectivity has played a key role in attracting more travellers from Europe, which remains the country’s largest tourism market.
Destinations such as Fès, known for its historic medina and cultural heritage, and Agadir, a coastal resort city popular for beach tourism, have increasingly benefited from the expansion of direct flights from European cities.
Analysts say additional routes from Germany — one of Europe’s largest outbound travel markets — could further boost visitor numbers to Morocco.
Airlines have also been expanding winter schedules to Mediterranean and North African destinations as travellers seek alternatives to colder European climates.
For Morocco, improved connectivity with major European hubs is expected to support continued growth in tourism while strengthening economic ties with key European markets.
