Accel has raised US$5 billion in fresh capital, doubling down on late stage investments in artificial intelligence and signaling a major shift in how venture capital is chasing the next generation of tech giants.
The new funding is heavily concentrated. About $4 billion will go into Accel’s flagship Leaders Fund, which targets mature startups that are already scaling rapidly and moving toward public markets. The firm plans to make roughly 20 large investments, with average cheque sizes around $200 million, a clear indication that this is not about early bets but about backing companies that are already proving dominance.
An additional $650 million has been raised for a sidecar fund, giving Accel flexibility to increase its stakes in its strongest portfolio companies as they grow.
