Egypt extends VAT certificate validity to June 30 to ease business compliance

Egypt has extended the validity of value-added tax (VAT) registration certificates until June 30, 2026, in a move aimed at easing compliance for businesses and ensuring continuity in commercial transactions, tax authorities said.

The decision was announced by Rasha Abdel Aal, head of the Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA), as part of ongoing coordination with customs authorities under directives from Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk.

Abdel Aal said the extension is designed to give registered taxpayers additional time to regularise their status, warning that it represents a final grace period and will not be renewed.

The measure applies to certificates that expired on March 31 and April 18, 2026, with affected taxpayers required to complete renewal procedures before the June 30 deadline.

For businesses registered under non-integrated tax offices, renewal must be carried out in person at the relevant office. Meanwhile, taxpayers affiliated with integrated tax offices and centres are required to submit applications electronically through the SAP system.

Failure to comply could lead to suspension from the tax system, potentially disrupting dealings with government institutions, private sector partners and banks, the authority said.

Officials warned that non-renewal may also hinder routine operational procedures, including financial transactions and regulatory clearances, underscoring the importance of timely compliance.

The extension comes as part of broader efforts by the Ministry of Finance to support businesses and improve the investment climate, particularly amid ongoing economic reforms.

Abdel Aal said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to facilitating taxpayer services while maintaining regulatory discipline.

She added that the move aligns with Egypt’s push toward digital transformation, including the expansion of electronic tax services and the development of a more efficient, transparent tax system.

Authorities have in recent years intensified efforts to modernise tax administration, reduce bureaucratic hurdles and strengthen compliance through technology-driven solutions.

The ETA has been promoting greater use of digital platforms to streamline processes such as registration, filing and payments, aiming to reduce administrative burdens on businesses.

Analysts say such measures are critical to enhancing investor confidence and supporting private sector growth, particularly as Egypt seeks to broaden its tax base and improve revenue mobilisation.

The extension of VAT certificate validity is expected to provide short-term relief to businesses facing administrative delays, while reinforcing the government’s longer-term strategy of building a modern tax framework based on partnership with the business community.

Officials reiterated that taxpayers should take advantage of the extended deadline to complete renewal procedures, as no further extensions are planned.

The move highlights Egypt’s ongoing efforts to balance regulatory enforcement with business facilitation, as it continues to implement reforms aimed at strengthening economic stability and promoting investmen
