The world’s largest technology exhibition brand, GITEX, is set to expand into East Africa with the launch of its inaugural event in Kenya in 2026, marking a major milestone in the continent’s growing digital economy.
The event, branded “AI Everything Kenya x GITEX Kenya,” is scheduled to take place in Nairobi from May 19 to May 21, 2026. It is expected to position Kenya as a central hub for artificial intelligence and innovation across Africa while attracting global investors, policymakers, and technology leaders.
Organisers say the expansion aligns with Kenya’s aggressive push into digital transformation, including investments in AI infrastructure, hyperscale data centres, and green industrialisation. The initiative is projected to unlock up to $2.4 billion in AI-driven economic potential, reflecting the growing role of technology in the country’s development strategy.
The event will be organised by KAOUN International, the global arm behind GITEX, in partnership with the Kenyan government’s Office of the Special Envoy on Technology and local innovation stakeholders.
Officials in Kenya have framed the development as both recognition and opportunity. Cabinet Secretary for ICT William Kabogo described the move as a signal of Kenya’s rising influence in global tech conversations, particularly in artificial intelligence and digital policy.
