Vodacom partners with Amazon to offer prime benefits to South African customers

South African telecommunications operator Vodacom has partnered with Amazon to offer Amazon Prime benefits to eligible mobile and broadband customers, expanding bundled digital services in the country’s telecoms market.

Under the agreement, customers subscribed to selected Vodacom mobile and internet plans will receive access to Amazon Prime, which combines video streaming, shopping, delivery and gaming services under a single subscription.

Vodacom said customers on its Red Core, Red Flexi and Red VIP mobile plans will be eligible for the service, while subscribers to Home Internet, Mobile Broadband and Fibre packages will qualify from August 2026.

Customers on Red Flexi plans will receive a three-month Amazon Prime trial, while Red Core subscribers will be offered a 12-month trial before standard subscription charges apply.

Following the trial period, eligible customers will pay 59 rand (about $3.30) per month for the service.

Red VIP, Home Internet and Fibre customers will continue to receive Amazon Prime benefits for as long as they remain eligible under the programme.

Vodacom also said prepaid customers will be able to subscribe to the service and pay using mobile airtime.

Amazon Prime offers subscribers access to Prime Video streaming, shopping discounts, early access to promotional deals and delivery benefits, including same-day and next-day delivery in selected locations.

The service also includes gaming benefits and a monthly Twitch channel subscription through Amazon Luna.

Vodacom said the partnership forms part of its strategy to expand beyond traditional connectivity services by offering customers a broader range of digital products and entertainment.

The agreement builds on an existing relationship between the two companies. Vodacom introduced Prime Video in South Africa in 2020 and later launched Prime Video Mobile Edition in 2022.

The latest partnership extends the collaboration by integrating Amazon’s broader Prime membership into selected Vodacom products.

Vodacom said the bundled offering is designed to provide greater value for customers at a time when households continue to face cost-of-living pressures.

Amazon said the agreement also strengthens its presence in South Africa following the launch of its local retail operations two years ago, as the company seeks to expand its digital and e-commerce ecosystem in the country.
